DERBY BREAST CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

FASHION SHOW 2007

   FASHION SHOW

On Friday evening 12th October 2007, the Derby Breast Cancer Support Group held another Fashion Show in The Pedigree Suite at Pride Park, Derby.  There were 400 people in the audience. We are pleased to say it was another fantastic Event and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the Show.

There were 12 models from our Support Group who all have had breast cancer and these were joined by 4 Breast Care Nurses from the Derby City General Hospital and 7 Doctors and Consultants also "strutted their stuff" in this fundraising Event.

Once again Debenhams supplied the clothes for our models to wear in 6 different categories.  We are very grateful to Debenhams in joining in with this fundraising Event as they had only moved into their new Westfield Store on the 9th October which was 3 days before our Fashion Show.  Whilst everyone was under pressure we all "pulled out the stops" to ensure a good Show was put on.  The models make-up was carried out by Lu Wright, Tara Seeley and Tanaz of Clarins of Debenhams and all looked lovely for the Show.  The model hairstyles were done by Chaplins of Littleover and again all models looked beautiful and ready for the Show.  This time we were joined by 2 ladies (Helen Corbett and Michaela) who did Nail Art for the models.  The end results were stunning.  The Sound and Lighting this time was carried out by Dave Dee Discos who were absolutely brilliant and very professional.  Dave is featuring our Event on his website at www.davedeediscos.co.uk so please have a look!!!!  We would like to thank Dave and his crew for everything.  Ann and John Morris were our video/photographers for the Event. The comperes for the Event were once again Lu Wright and Tara Seeley from Clarins of Debenhams.  These 2 ladies are brilliant and "born comperes" and we are extremely grateful to them for doing this for us once again.  There were 3 categories of clothes modelled in the 1st half of the Show ie Nightwear, Work and Shopping.  After this we were able to persuade our camera-shy Secretary and Organiser (Christine Cotterill) to walk down the catwalk.  She would like it to be known that it was only the promise of walking down to  "Under Pressure" by Freddie Mercury/Queen that she succumbed!!!  It was our Treasurer's (Pam Smith) birthday on the night so we all sang Happy Birthday to her.  During the interval Hayley Hughes sang for us.  She has a lovely voice and everyone enjoyed her singing.  After the Interval we had our Grand Raffle draw with 44 prizes having been donated.  Nona Summers came onto the stage and presented us with a cheque for £2,000.00 which she and her friends had raised for us. This was followed by our models wearing clothes for Early Doors/Xmas..... Christmas/On The Town and New Year/Glitz/Glamour.  The Doctors and Consultants joined in these categories wearing clothes etc from Debenhams Suit Hire. This led up to the Finale which was to the song by Tina Turner "Simply The Best".  We had a standing ovation during this Finale and this was a lovely ending to a fantastic and brilliant evening.  TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED IN ANYWAY TO MAKE THIS FASHION SHOW A SUCCESS....MANY THANKS.

The proceeds from the Fashion Show will all be used to help and support local patients, in various ways, with breast cancer. We continue to provide a giftbag to every new breast cancer patient at the Derby City General Hospital.  Inside the giftbag is a tube of handcream to say that we are thinking of them during a very traumatic time of their lives.  The giftbag is then used by the patients to carry their drainage bottles in after their operation. We presently purchase 600 giftbags and handcream every year. We are also asked by the Breast Unit from time to time to help various breast cancer patients who find themselves in dire financial difficulties caused through their diagnosis or treatment.  So, we provide a Supermarket food voucher to assist them.  Some of the proceeds will also be used to purchase equipment for our 2 local hospitals and this will be on our website as and when this has been done.

The final figure raised (after all the bills paid) was a fantastic.....

£4,000.00 nett so together with the above donation of £2,000.00 means that we now have  £6,000.00 to help local breast cancer patients as detailed above.   Many thanks again to everyone.
