The Derby Breast Cancer Support Group are pleased to have presented the following donations to LOCAL Hospitals etc to provide better facilities for all breast cancer patients receiving treatment. (The following donations total £84,517.76 - this is a truly fantastic achievement to help LOCAL breast cancer patients. The Derby Breast Cancer Support Group would like to thank everyone who has given us donations, whether large or small.... all are very gratefully appreciated). 2013 2012 £11,998.00 - Presented to the Breast Unit, Royal Derby Hospital to enable a NEOPROBE to be purchased for the benefit of breast cancer patients. £538.75 - One year's subscription for 18 magazines for the Breast Unit and surrounding rooms at the Royal Derby Hospital. £ 24.99 - One year's subscription for Derbyshire Life Magazine for Breast Unit, Royal Derby Hospital.
2011 £1,485.00 - 100 new gowns for use by breast cancer patients undergoing Radiotherapy treatment at The Royal Derby Hospital. £2,500.00 - Treetops Hospice for Art Therapy and Creative Activities sessions enjoyed by cancer patients £551.01 - One year's subscription for 19 magazines for the Breast Unit and surrounding rooms at the Royal Derby Hospital.
2010 £350.00 - presented to Physiotherapy Unit at Royal Derby Hospital for items of equipment to be used by breast cancer patients after their operations (ie exercise equipment etc) £218.55 - purchased a Picture/Image for Ripley Hospital. £500.00 - presented to Namesake Charity to display a further 5 x Inscriptions on local Trent/Barton buses which publicises our website. The Inscriptions cost £100.00 each and appear on the Ripley, Heatherton Village, Belper, Derby University and London Road Community Hospital to new Royal Derby Hospital. Namesake Charity then donate these funds to the Derby Breast Cancer Scanner Appeal. £925.75 - Sofa for Cancer Services Unit, Royal Derby Hospital.
2009 £4,048.58 - 43 IMAGES/PICTURES purchased from HILARY SHEDEL PHOTOGRAPHY now hung in the new Breast Unit and other surrounding rooms in the new Royal Derby Hospital. £525.30 presented to RIPLEY HOSPITAL to purchase various items. £500.00 presented to Namesake Charity to display 5 x Inscriptions on local Trent/Barton buses which publicises our website. The Inscriptions cost £100.00 each and appear on the Ashbourne, Mickleover, Allestree, Alfreton and Spondon Flyer buses. Namesake Charity then donate these funds to the Derby Breast Cancer Scanner Appeal. £50.00 given to TREE TOPS HOSPICE. £5,927.00 presented to Radiotherapy Unit at Derbyshire Royal Infirmary to purchase a CARBON FIBRE POSIBOARD (breast board for use by breast cancer patients undergoing their treatment).
2008 2007 - £2,846.00 presented to Breast Unit, Derby City General Hospital to purchase a Tattooing Machine for use after Breast surgery.
2006 - £7,926.80 presented to Derbyshire Royal Infirmary to purchase 2 x POSIBOARDS which will be used by patients having radiotherapy for breast cancer. These are "special" carbon fibre boards with arm and neck supports.
- £97.80 presented to Derbyshire Royal Infirmary to purchase 4 x ELECTRIC DIFFUSERS which will be used in the Radiotherapy Unit to give out essential oil fragrances.
2005 - £7,000.00 presented to the Chemotherapy Unit at the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary to go towards purchasing a BLOOD ANALYSER which will be used by all cancer patients attending the Chemotherapy Unit.
2004 - £1,000.00 presented to Breast Unit, Derby City General Hospital to go towards purchasing a DEFIBRILLATOR for the MOBILE SCREENING UNIT.

DISCRETIONARY GRANTS There are approximately 400 NEW breast cancer patients diagnosed each year within the region covered by the Derby City General Hospital. From time to time we are approached by the Breast Care Nurses to assist some patients who are in financial difficulties due to their diagnosis, prognosis and various treatments they are undergoing. We purchase Supermarket Vouchers and these are handed to the patients. We have received many "thank you" letters and cards from grateful patients whom we have helped during what is a very traumatic time in their lives. THERAPIES DAYS In July 2000 we started holding our Therapy Days, approximately every 3/6 months on a Saturday, in the Breast Screening Unit at the Derby City General Hospital. We usually have up to 10 different Therapists attending and they provide 30 minute "taster sessions" of the therapies. Breast cancer patients, partners and family can come along and choose 2 Therapies of their choice. These Events have proved to be very popular with everyone who attends as it gives patients a chance to talk with other people going or have gone through the same treatment. It also gives the patients a chance to chat with a Breast Care Nurse who attends the Therapy Days as well as meeting members of our Support Group. Refreshments, rolls and home-made cakes are available on these days too. But.....most of all these Therapy Days provide a "little bit of pampering" which is much appreciated by everyone who comes along. As the Therapists give up their valuable spare time to attend these Events, we do offer some recompense for their loss of earnings on that day and car park charges incurred by them.
